Mission Direct is about to launch projects in three new African countries. Full details of the projects in Malawi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe will be announced shorlty. However Mission Direct can now reveal that all three projects will involve the building of new schools. All three schools are in remote villages.
In Malawi a new primary school offers the only chance of education for children, as the nearest school is currently a ten mile walk away. The Government will provide teachers for the project, but first we need to provide a building...
In Zimbabwe, village children are currently being taught outdoors, without any school facilities and resources. This project will be one of Mission Direct's new Xtreme Team projects, with volunteers forgoing rather more creature comforts than our other trips. See our Specialist Trips section for more details of Xtreme Teams.
We will be working with the Go Mad charity in Tanzania. The village of Mosuma on Lake Victoria currently has a primary school run by the Diocese of Mara. However this is where schooling ends for these children, desperate for a full education.
"Education may seem like a luxury to some people, compared to the pressing needs of food and shelter" said Nigel Hyde, Mission Direct's Chief Executive "but for millions of Africans it is the thing they are desperate for - it is the way out of poverty."
More details on all three projects, along with information on how to volunteer will be available from December.
Why not try your hand at an Extreme team. First one in September 2009. See specialised teams page
