In 2010

You will be helping to build the first of a series of primary schools for the Yawo people. It will serve the village of Mdale. They are desperate for their children to be educated, knowing that even a basic education can transform the quality of their lives.

The plan is to build an eight classroom school with offices and accommodation for teachers, over four years. You will be helping to build the first section of this, with two classrooms and two offices. The school buildings will also be available for other community uses Church worship and adult education.

Most of the work will be on the building site. However you will have opportunities to join in with Yawo Bible studies, and maybe do a little teaching too, with the help of translators.

Relaxing under African skies

As well as remaining largely untouched by industrialisation, the area is also stunningly beautiful. There will be time for rest and relaxation after the building work is finished. You will either pay a visit to Lake Malawi, journeying out by boat, or pay a visit to one of the game parks in the region. Either way you can prepare yourself for breathtaking views and the chance to explore somewhere far from the usual African tourist trail.
