Mission Direct is going to Kenya. Care to join us?

With trips for the ‘summer holiday’ period of July and August filling up fast, we are proud to announce details of an exciting new project being launched.

For the first time, Mission Direct are offering places on a trip to Southern Kenya from 30th July – 13th Aug. Volunteers will be helping to construct a refuge Centre for Maasai Girls who escape female circumcision and an early forced marriage. Both of these practises are still commonplace in this area of Kenya, despite being outlawed by the national government. Girls who refuse the ceremony - considered a rite of passage - face ostracism.

The project has been initiated by the Maasai Evangelistic Association (MEA), who have been working alongside Maasai communities in the southern area of Kenya.

“This centre represents the chance for these young girls to make a choice for their future.” said David Kereto of the MEA “It’s not just the operation - unsafe and unnecessary as that is - it is the opportunity for young Maasai women to make their own choices about their future, including marriage and a proper education. Volunteers will be contributing to all of these things with their work.”
