Mission Direct - Volunteers helping the world's poor

rsz_img_3091Volunteer Chris Beckett drew on every ounce of his sales experience to turn usherette for the new Mission Direct 3D cinema experience.

Chris is one of a group of supporters who have been manning and woman-ing the new exhibition stand, which is visiting a number of the Christian exhibitions and festivals this year. The centrepiece is a 47” TV which shows a 3D film of MD’s work around the work. Click here to see the film in two dimensions.

‘The idea was to try and give people an immersive experience; what it’s like to be on a dusty street in Sierra Leone, or building a clinic in Cambodia’ explains Chris ‘Most people go ‘wow’ when they put the special glasses on and start watching, but we do get a few people that don’t seem to get on with the 3D experience and emerge blinking and clutching their head after half a minute or so – we have a normal version ready for them… and a few aspirins just in case…’

You can still catch the Mission Direct 3D cinematic experience at New Wine and Momentum at Shepton  Mallet,  and Greenbelt Festival in Cheltenham. Visitors to Keswick, Detling and Grapevine festivals will see our 'stereoscopic' stand, as featured in an earlier edition of Direct Contact.

All About Mission Direct

Mission Direct gives ordinary people the chance to do extraordinary things around the world. In two weeks you will change the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. You can help to build a house, classroom or clinic. We discover people and groups doing remarkable things in their own countries. Then we provide them the people and resources that they need. We do this by enabling people like you, with two or more weeks to join our life-altering trips.
