General comment - DO NOT ENTER ANY PUNCTUATION MARKS (e.g.
" ' , . (except .
may be used in email addresses))
A church is a spiritual entity – it has a rough location but no address. It supports mission partners and gives donations. It is linked with incumbents, curates, parish secretaries, treasurers etc. It may be linked with other churches as a united benefice. It may, through custom, have acquired more than one name. It may even not be Anglican. It is very welcome on the database but must be well cared for.
Before entering (adding) a new church be sure it doesn't exist on RR
already...
You must search very carefully for it (some are well hidden!) For example:
Looking for Pantygwydr Church, Swansea
a) Search >Swansea
b) Search >Pantygwydr
c) Look in Crockfords – under Welsh churches
d) Look on the internet
e) Search for the incumbent and see which church he is linked to.
f) If none of the above, be brave and add it.
(Note that the "general search" facility on RRX may help you find
it)
To enter a church:
Churches are differentiated from individuals by their > prefix.
Thus the search name for Mr John Deptford is DEPTFORD
The search name for St John, Deptford is >DEPTFORD
Name: The Correspondent
Search Name: >Swansea
Salutation: Friend
Organisation: Swansea St Mary (No comma, no apostrophe)
Post town: Use the search name (Do not include anything else on the address page)
Mailing status: Mail None
There are exceptions:
· non Anglican churches usually have addresses (because they have letter
boxes!)
· some famous Anglican churches in the centre of cities are known by their addresses, eg All Souls Langham Place
Categories:
It is essential that a church is linked to a diocese (even those that are not Anglican!*). A region is made up of dioceses – a report of churches in a region only includes those churches which have been placed in a diocese.
Category Header: D (the other diocese category is for individuals not to be used here)
Category: Search for your diocese. (The diocese is listed by the church in Crockfords)
Category Header: L
Category: Add a number on the electoral roll if you know it (Diocesan directory)
Category Header: G
Category: Add the ABCZ grade that you gave the church
*For non-Anglican churches Category Header: R
Category: NAC (non Anglican church)
Contacts: Add details of any contacts you have had with the church – visits from mission partners or regional co-ordinators etc, phone calls, letters etc
THAT IS ALL YOU CAN PUT ON A CHURCH RECORD
Correcting a Church Record:
Do NOT change the name of a church. (If you think something is wrong, beyond
typographical errors, contact Janet
Horsman or Martin Brown)
Please make other changes in accordance with the above rules
