Chesa
Chesa is another rural community dependent on agriculture as its main source of income. When Gerard Bahutunze arrived there he gathered together 7 Christians to form the foundation of this new congregation. After six months, through his evangelism and discipling programme, the numbers had grown to 13 adults and nine children. However we understand that since this report there has been much more growth. They recently held a very successful evangelistic meeting attended by over 100 people, many of whom made commitments.
A lot of this growth has been attributed to the work of Water Aid. The Diocese of Tabora development department is the local agent for this British based charity. Therefore the Anglican Church is seen as the one bringing practical help to many villages, transforming the lives of thousands by providing clean and safe water. This has resulted in many people coming to find out what the Anglican Church is all about and consequently hearing the Gospel.
The congregation at Chesa has bought a site for their new Church and have made the bricks. The site already had a house on it and this is where Gerard and his family now live.
