Introducing FES GAMBIA

April 2003 index

FES Gambia is the Fellowship of Evangelical Students Gambia, and the General Secretary is Steven Musa-Kormayea. It was founded in 1996 and has been the pioneer in student work in Gambia.

At the invitation of Steven, Crosslinks, through the Smile programme, is working together with FES Gambia to serve the students and people of Gambia as well as to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.

Steven has a vision and desire to see a student movement in Gambia that is biblically rooted, evangelistic, with mature disciples of Jesus Christ. He and his team will be looking after the Gambia team as well as Jane Benney.

2003 is a big year for Smile. We currently have 14 young people (Smilers) serving overseas in East and West Africa in various ways. The greatest way you can support these young people whilst they are overseas is through your prayers.

The Gambia Team: Left to right (boys): Sam Owen, Olly Rokison, Andy Palmer, James Maurice, Simon Tomkins. Girls: Lucy Deacon, Sophie Marnham, Hannah Jervis, Nicola Steeds. Also Henry Swayne (not pictured).
The team will be teaching in primary schools and also involved in a number of church activities. They will be in Gambia from January to May 2003.
Jane Benney will be working as part of Steven's FES Gambia team and will be involved in bible studies, evangelism, and student work in various parts of the country. She will be there from January 2003 for a year and possibly longer!

Prayer Points

There are so many prayer requests for these Smilers but here are a few for your prayers:

  • Safety and Protection in all they do especially whilst travelling
  • Good health
  • That the Lord will bless Steven and his ministry in the Gambia
  • That the good news of Jesus Christ will be spread through the work of these young people
