facing the challenge

October 2003 index

”And that’s exactly the challenge that Crosslinks

is responding to! As a dynamic mission agency,

rooted in biblical truth, and enabling the work

of the Gospel throughout the worldwide

Anglican Communion, we’re at the forefront

of bringing God’s Word to God’s world.”

Andy Lines, General Secretary, Crosslinks

If you thought Crosslinks merely represented an insignificant minority of old-fashioned Anglicans out of step with modern mission thinking and practice in the denomination, think again! Better still, take a look at a brand new presentation we’ve put together for churches and individuals in an exciting CD-Rom format called “God’s World”.

In a fast-moving video presentation, the first part of “God’s World” is a clear and concise re-statement of the fundamental principles behind biblical mission and the vital and vibrant work we’re doing all over the world to fulfil the Gospel imperative. In it, you’ll see and hear from major evangelical churchmen like Richard Bewes and Vaughan Roberts, as well as high profile lay people like novelist and columnist Anne Atkins. There are cross-cultural contributions from Rolly Singh, Wilson Gill and Udobata Onunwa, as well as local clergy like Richard Coekin. Of course it also features Crosslinks leaders like Honorary President Chris Wright and General Secretary Andy Lines.

You’ll get an overview of the huge variety and scope of our work, from support for Mission Partners in Bible-based work across cultural boundaries to co-operation with national churches in local projects; from our BEST programme for sponsoring Bible training of national students to our SMILE initiative encouraging mission links amongst UK churches through short-term placement schemes.

Yet in all this diversity, you’ll see how our prime focus remains to make Christ known through the proclamation and teaching of God’s Word. The last few years have seen huge changes in world mission in terms of a new emphasis on support
for culturally relevant national work. But whether the mission field is Burma or Bolton, Soweto or Slough, Crosslinks is there to serve the churches and enable them in mission that flows out of the Bible and the Cross. In whatever we do, we strive to remain true to our word – or rather, God’s Word to God’s world.

We hope that you’ll want to take advantage and use the presentation section of this CD-Rom to update yourself, your home study groups, your PCC or your church congregation on the exciting and crucial work of Crosslinks.

Anne Atkins:

“Third World aid has
never saved a single life.
It may have postponed
the evil hour for millions,
only for them to die
another day. If we don’t
give people the Gospel,
we’re condemning them
to death.”

Udobata Onunwa:

“The days are long
gone when mission
was about European
or North American
missionaries going out
to convert the heathen
in foreign lands …”
