Welcome
to the Annual Review, giving some snapshots of our activities around
the world in 2003. The year was, as usual, full of activity. That
Was The Year That Was tries
to capture the essence of our various spheres of work – mission
partners, best, next and project grants.
Also we
pick out a few topics for more attention. One of our enduring
strengths is the
faithful prayer and giving of our supporters in Ulster
and the Republic
of Ireland.
In her report Melanie Lacy tells us about a year of change and
growth.
Recent
months have seen the development of our links with the Anglican
church in Myanmar. Although this country is closed to foreign
mission partners, after his recent visit, Andy Lines suggests future
directions for supporting mission without exporting mission partners
in Mission Without Missionaries.
In Every
Army Needs a General Fund, I explain how the Crosslinks
General Fund is used to support mission around the world.
In
December 2002, the General Council stepped out in faith by not
reducing our direct charitable spending. Thanks to faithful prayer
and giving, alongside cuts in costs, our finances have moved back
into balance. Money Matters shows
how.
Now we
press forward with plans this year to expand best and our
project grants programme. Much has been done, but there is much more
to do. Please move forward with us in mission in 2004.
