Crosslinks
Mission Resources Team Leader, Graham Sopp writes: “When my
wife and I lived in Germany, we belonged to the American
Protestant Church in Bonn. One of the pastor’s most
memorable remarks was “It’s always easier to raise money
for church flowers rather than the garbage collection.”
His point was that flowers may be more attractive than garbage, but
both are important and need to be paid for.
I
am reminded of this every time I think about our General Fund.
Our mission partners and our best
and
smile programmes
are the immediately appealing side of our work. Nevertheless, in
order to sustain and develop this frontline work we need a
support team who carries out a whole range of vital specialist
functions.
Through
this team Crosslinks brings huge experience and expertise concerning
the Church overseas. We have a historical heritage in many countries,
and strong links to others through mission networks.
-
As
a placements organisation we conduct independent research, assessment
and vetting of mission partner candidates.
-
For
mission partners we provide skilled and experienced
pastoral care, personal development and accountability.
-
We
handle insurance, pensions, medical care and Gift Aid tax recovery.
-
We
act as consultants to many churches in the UK over their mission
strategies and support.
All
these things and many more are financed from the General Fund.
These mission support costs are constantly reviewed with a
passionate desire to ensure that every pound is wisely and prudently
spent, and contributes towards our primary purpose. Nevertheless,
supporting our work around the world comes at a cost. So when
you next make a donation to support your link mission partner, please
think about allocating 25% to the General Fund. That way
you’ll be contributing towards the vital support that
keeps the frontline work going."
