Crosslinks in Ireland

July 2004 index

As a result of an ongoing review of all operating policies and procedures, Crosslinks in Ireland has seen significant changes in many different areas of operation during the last twelve months. Ireland team leader Melanie Lacy reports

All Ireland Working Group

A new All Ireland Working Group has been formed as an advisory body, replacing the Dublin and Ulster councils. It will support the Ireland Team Leader and develop effective policies and operating strategies to promote and increase the society’s work on the island of Ireland. The group consists of three members from the Southern Ireland and four from Northern Ireland. Priorities for 2004 are to:

  • operate on an all Ireland basis

  • implement a clear strategy to further develop the children’s and youth work

  • develop a strong support structure

  • develop a clear communication strategy

  • increase support levels.

Youth and Children’s Work

Crosslinks in Ireland continues to run an exciting and innovative work amongst children and young people. The aim is to equip and enable young Christians to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ at home and overseas. The work includes holiday Bible clubs, camps, young adult Bible teaching weeks and monthly Bible teaching meetings, each including an overseas presentation. A recent review of the youth work in Northern Ireland has resulted in a five year Bible teaching programme, a mission and a Bible input group. This group is responsible for producing good teaching materials for summer camps and a new short term service programme designed to challenge young people to seriously engage in God’s mission in his world.

Mission Partners

Karen Salmon returned on leave from Ethiopia last Autumn. Her love of Jesus Christ, her commitment to serve him and enthusiasm for proclaiming his word were an incredible challenge to all those who had the privilege of hearing her speak during her mission education programme. Arctic Canada and the Inuit people have become a constant prayer focus for the folks in Ireland since Darren and Karen McCartney went to serve in the Diocese of the Arctic as associate mission partners. We have learnt much and prayed greatly for God’s people in that place. Finally, we welcomed home the Reaneys from Murgwanza Hospital in Tanzania after eleven years service, where they brought ‘God’s Word to God’s world’ as they ministered medically and spiritually amongst the Tanzanian people.
