We reported Rachel’s work with the women from Kibera slum in our last issue
(June 2004). Meanwhile David highlighted the effect of Gene Robinson’s consecration upon the Anglican Church of Kenya. Students from Carlile College, where David is principal and who were engaged in door-to-door evangelism, have been criticised by other Christians for belonging to a denomination that supports the ordination of practicing homosexual people. A number of Pentecostal students studying at the college’s Centre for Urban Mission have asked for clarification in areas of doctrine and sexual ethics before being willing to continue to train on discipleship programmes in Kibera slum. Preaching at Christ Church, Ware, David encouraged a continued strong stand following the appointment of Jeffrey John as Dean of St Albans. He reminded the congregation that there is only one hope for salvation, one Gospel and one basis of unity, saying “Kenyan Christians have committed themselves to Jesus Christ as the only way, only truth and only life.”
