Funding new initiatives

July 2006 index

It is only right and proper that you should know how the money you give so generously to the work through Crosslinks is allocated, so here is a simple explanation of the three different types of funds

General Funds

These are unrestricted, to be used for Crosslinks’ ministry to take God’s Word to God’s World. They pay for support costs and overheads, for communication and fundraising. These are essential aspects without which we could not function. But the money is also available for new ventures and for areas where insufficient designated funds have been received.

Designated Funds

These are funds designated to a specific aspect of Crosslinks’ budgeted ministry. All mission partners have funds, and money given to that fund will be used to support Crosslinks’ ministry through that mission partner. There are also designated funds for study partners and projects.

Restricted Funds

These are set up for specific purposes, such as the African food shortages, which are outside the annual budget and the donations that are made are forwarded on. All the money that is given towards the African food shortages is being sent on directly to those churches where the needs are the greatest.

These are three examples of how general funds are spent:

Study partners

Many are now linked with supporters, but this year’s budget of £88,000 is greater than current commitments and so the balance is taken from General Fund

Schools of Biblical Training

This exciting development trains hundreds of people at a time how to preach the Gospel. Short courses are suitable for adaptation and are increasingly led by volunteers. The hope is that countries will develop their own trainers who will be available to take the training into new areas. Crosslinks staff have worked with others to initiate SBTs, and in some countries grants have been given to help students travel long distances to attend. This work could be started because there was money in the General Fund for projects to initiate mission and training.

South to South

Serving the Church in the most appropriate way can mean selecting someone outside the UK, and a lack of support from the sending countries should not rule them out. For Benoit, Wanyeki (more..) and others like them, the General Fund enables their ministries to flourish.

To support this work, please pray for those involved and a financial commitment or donation to GEN will ensure that this encouragement can continue.
