You and your share giving
Why might you want to give a gift of shares to benefit Crosslinks?
-
It can be tax efficient. You may be able to claim income tax relief plus there is also exemption from Capital Gains Tax.
-
You may want to support Crosslinks but not be in a position to give cash
-
You may have a small number of shares that you would prefer to put to good use rather than letting them gather dust!
-
Most importantly, you may want to help others across the world and in the UK.
How do I go about giving shares to benefit Crosslinks?
Read through this sheet and the other literature including: ‘Give shares to charity and cut your tax bill’ and ‘Giving Shares to charity’.
(These are leaflets produced by "The
Giving Campaign") You may also want to contact other organisations, including the Inland Revenue or get professional advice from an accountant, financial adviser or a solicitor about your personal circumstances and how your donations can be made most effectively.
What are some of the options?
For small gifts of shares, we suggest that you contact ShareGift (registered charity 1052686). Their contact details are 020 7337 0501,
www.sharegift.org, 46 Grosvenor Street, London. W1K 3HN. ShareGift specialises in share donations, especially small holdings of shares that may cost more to sell than they are worth. The charity pools shares until they have enough to sell and then donates the money to UK charities, including Crosslinks. ShareGift can also help you with larger donations. There is no charge to use
ShareGift.
For gifts of shares over £500 you can gift to Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) who will sell and pass the proceeds less a small charge to Crosslinks. CAF's contact details are 01732 520338 and
www.allaboutgiving.org/shares/uk Kings Hill, West Malling, Kent ME19 4TA
- Please ensure that you provide our name, address and charity number (24 99 86) to ShareGift or
CAF.
- Crosslinks cannot give financial advice, but these are two options that are open to you.
What should I do once I have organised the donation of the shares?
Please inform Karen Scutt, depending on how you give we may not be informed that you have given and we are keen to thank people like you for your support!
