Philie Hunter

1 April 2008, Janet Horsman, Crosslinks Deputy CEO writes:

Dear Friends

It is with very mixed feelings that I write to let you know that Philie Hunter went to be with her Saviour last night. After her battle with cancer, she spent the past four weeks in hospital and died settled and peacefully with family around her.

Paul and Philie with Joanna, Grace, Jonathan and Sally went out to the Morogoro Bible College, Tanzania in February 1997. During their time there Philie was involved in teaching English, Hygiene and Health Care and helping with the cow project. Both Paul and Philie were very involved with developing the English language congregation in Morogoro and Philie helped to start and develop the Sunday School programme.

Paul and Philie and their children integrated very well into the African way of life and were greatly loved and respected by the college staff and students. They had a good grasp of Kiswahili and were always keen to develop relationships and to make long journeys out to rural villages to visit friends.

The family returned to the UK in August 2006, having passed on the leadership of the college and the English language service to Tanzanians. The following January Philie was diagnosed with cancer and the family had to cope with this as well as adjustment to UK life. In September Paul started a teaching job (doing a teacher training qualification on the job) and they moved on from Crosslinks – though remaining much in our hearts and prayers.

While we rejoice for Philie, our hearts and prayers are with Paul and the family. As yet we have no details of the funeral but we will post them on www.crosslinks.org as soon as we can.

Thank you for being part of Philie’s ministry through Crosslinks.
