It's Boring!

Depends what you mean by missionary work... There's still a lot of people who associate overseas missionary work with slide shows (some slides upside down, of course) and images of the great white master (or more usually mistress) teaching the poor natives (incomprehensible) things that they didn't look as if they wanted to know.

If you're one of them you'd better find out some facts...

1) Old pictures often give the wrong impression - life for the missionaries of old certainly wasn't boring even if their pictures sometimes were.

2) Today's mission partners are doing many different things - and where appropriate using some exciting modern technology and methods. (Yes, most of them are using computers now!) They are living in cultures different from their own, often they have children who are going to schools where they are doing all their lessons in a foreign language. Challenges there are many - boredom is not usually a problem. One thing is pretty much guaranteed, they learn things they didn't previously dream about.

3) The church in many parts of the world is growing fast. Christians in these countries have much to teach us about sharing the good news of Jesus - but they sometimes need outside expertise and specialist help.

You can be involved in what God is doing - thousands of miles away in places and people that you have never even visited. Through prayer, giving and going, you can be part of God's work in God's world - not just your little corner of it. What's boring about that?

Take a look at some of the mission partner pages, or read what's happening in Tabora.
