What right have I got to disturb the culture and beliefs of another people?
You haven't... but God has, and just maybe He'd like the people of *??!* to have a chance to get to know Him. That doesn't mean that He wants them turned into replica Brits, or that everything about them is wrong. Far from it. But Jesus, from what he said and from what he did, thought that the Jews of his day needed hear about his offer of salvation. And the Jews, if anyone, you'd have thought, would have been on the right wavelength.
So have I any right to be so patronising as to suggest that I know better than Jesus did, and that therefore I'll try to keep Jesus hidden from the people of *??!* ?
Let's be honest about it - there have been lots of well-meaning missionaries in the past, who (to our eyes!) seem to have grafted on a whole lot of western culture to the gospel. The degree to which we unthinkingly think that the way we do things is "the Christian way" is sometimes horrifying.
But that is no excuse for being so apologetic that we try to keep Jesus all to ourselves.
