Back on!
Dear friends, Greetings to you from Walsall! It’s been a while since our last news letter. How are you all doing? We trust that this New Year has been fruitful for you so far. We have to start by saying we are so sorry for not updating a lot of you on what has been happening with us. We hope to be able to do that as best as we can through this, so keep reading!
5 Sandymount Road
That is where our new home is located in Walsall England. Some of you would know that in August last year we moved from Denmark where we had been working with YWAM for the three years to the UK.
We have been asked a lot of times where Walsall is, and how in the world we ended up there!
Walsall: Just very briefly; Walsall is located in north of the West Midlands, immediately north of Birmingham. The population is about 259,500
So how did we end up here? It is a long story but we’ll make it as brief as possible. Well the plan was that after our time in Denmark, we were going to go back to work in Southern Africa. But towards the end of our stay in Denmark, the Lord spoke clearly to us that he wanted us in the UK, he even specified exactly where he wanted us; Birmingham area! The way the Lord opened the doors at the right time amazed us and so many others! We told (the organisation we are now Associate mission partners with) they supported us and prayed along. After a while Lord used them to find an opening for us at St Matthews Church Walsall where Kola now works as the youth minister. More on that later.
Family news
On the 8th of January this year our little boy Dara turned two. Demi our baby turned one on the 25th of March. They grow so fast! It’s been amazing watching them grow, and seeing how different and unique they each are. We are beginning to understand most of what Dara says now which is such a blessing, it makes such a difference when they can tell you what they want. He is getting interested in a lot of things and asks so many questions now! Demi is a delightful baby he is so active, and tries to pull down whatever he can reach. He is beginning to say Dada, and Dara which are both easier to say than Mummy :). They are beginning to play together now, it’s great watching them. They keep us on our toes most of the time, but they are such a joy to have.
Bereavement: The end of last year was quite difficult for us as a family; we lost three family members (Kola’s Uncle, Ada’s grandmother and Aunt) within a very short period of time. It was quite sad and shocking for us and our families back at home who are only just recovering from the shock of the events. The most difficult part for us was that we were unable to be with our families at that time. But we have been in touch and God has been close to them and all of us.
Ada’s Dad came to visit early this year; it was great to see him again. He was able to give us first hand information on all the things that happened at home and it sort of helped us get closure.
Ministry and Daily life
It’s been a little over 7 months since we moved to Walsall, we feel pretty settled in now. We are enjoying living in Walsall. the people around here are nice and friendly. We are getting to know people here especially people from the church. The people from the Church have been very welcoming and helpful; they have blessed us in so many ways. The members of the church contributed furniture and a lot of house hold things for us when we first moved in. We love the church are really beginning to feel part of it.
Ada and the children go to the Mom’s and toddlers group that the Church organises twice a week whenever they can. It has giving Ada the opportunity to meet and get to know some other Mom’s which is great. It also gives the Dara and Demi the opportunity to play with other children, which they really enjoy. Ada has also had some opportunities to perform some drama at the church; people were blessed and she has been encouraged to perform more which is great!
St Matthews Church had not had a youth minister in two years when Kola started work there. It was really like starting from the scratch. But so far have seen increase and growth since kola started. Still it’s not a big group and we are still praying for more increase; at the moment however Kola is concentrating on getting to know them better and on discipleship. He meets with them twice a week one of the days for a social and the other day for bible study, discussion or teachings. Apart from this kola works with the Bluecoat school; he takes some assemblies and works with the Christian union every week.
Praise and prayer
- Praise God for opening the door to the UK. We are also grateful for our wonderful home and all of God’s provision to us.
- Kola has been meeting with other youth leaders to plan outreaches and strategies to reach the young people in the area. Please pray that God blesses these and make them a reality.
- We are aiming to develop a discipleship scheme to support the faith of the young people, especially teaching them how to pray. We also aim to do a detailed study with the youth on evangelism and taking them out on mini outreaches to the community. Please pray that the Lord brings these to pass in his own time. Also pray for the spiritual growth of the young people that the Holy Spirit fills them up with his power. Please pray for Kola that the Lord gives him wisdom and continuous freshness from the Holy Spirit as he leads the youth group
- Recently Kola was one of the speakers on a week long seminar for students from several schools around the area. About 700 youth attended! He did a workshop on relationships, he got some tough questions! Praise God that it all went well. Please pray that the Lord keeps and grows the seeds that was planted in the hearts of the young people
- Please pray for Colin the vicar of St Matthews’s church that he Lord continues to bless protect and give him grace as he leads the church.
- Kola was able to go back to Denmark for a week to be part of the impact world tour. Several people gave their lives to Christ! The tour still continues, Please pray for God to bring more people to himself during the rest of the tour in Denmark.
- Please continue to pray for God’s protection, grace and provision for us and our extended families.
God bless you all. Please feel free to send us your prayer request we would love to pray for you.
With lots of love from
Kola, Ada, Dara & Demi
