Prayer Update February 2005
Dear Everyone,
Happy New Year! We pray that the year has got off to a good start for all of you. Thank you so much for all your cards, notes and gifts over Christmas - it was so encouraging to hear from so many and to know we were being thought of.
We had a busy and fun Christmas, enjoyed more than ever by Abigail and Alex. Rosie's parents came for the first two weeks of January. It was of course lovely to have them here and the children as always thoroughly enjoyed hours of playing and stories. They keep asking when Granny and Grandpa are coming to see us again!
Our term began on 10th January, and so we are in full swing already. Dan is teaching Biblical Interpretation, Christian Doctrine and Apologetics. I am teaching a New Testament course on selected books and themes - which I am enjoying very much partly as I have a group of students I know well by now. Please pray for us both that we will teach with wisdom and instil in our students a love for and knowledge of God's word. I have purposely taken on less this term, with a view to spending more time with the children, and to not getting so tired! However commitments such as the Women in Ministry Fellowship, a Theology students' discipleship group, and teaching Sunday School every few weeks, continue, as well as the occasional appearance on the preaching rota. The (now) Reverend Button has several preaching engagements this term already. Please pray for us in all these commitments.
The last week of February, starting on 21st, there will be the second yearly Mission in the University. This one is more focused on discipling Christians and encouraging them to get involved in all kinds of Christian ministry - though there will be evangelistic elements as well. Please pray for the preparation, for the speaker as he plans his talks, and for the week itself, that many students' lives will be impacted for the growth of God's Kingdom.
The children are well. Abigail is enjoying her school term although it did take a few days to get back into the swing. Swimming is a bit better these days, although she still feels anxious beforehand. Meanwhile Alex is bursting to go to school and we are hoping to start him in a pre-school in the next few weeks. Pray for us to make a good decision on that.
Please keep praying for safety as we drive Abigail to school - we are very much aware of God's protection over us. Please also continue to pray for Rosie's ongoing hyperthyroidism - still "a thorn in the flesh"!! Thank you so much for praying with us for these personal matters as well as for our work among the students here in Uganda. We feel it a real privilege and blessing to have you praying for us. It is certainly a great encouragement. We know that many of our students have great gifts and potential, and will go out and have amazing ministries in various parts of East Africa when their years here are completed - that is what we hope to contribute towards.
With our love and prayers,
Rosie Dan Abigail and Alex.
