Prayer Update July 2005

Dear Everyone,

We have had an exciting month with many answered prayers and much to thank God for...

Thanks and Praise:

  • At the start of the month we had a short but fantastic trip to England for Rosie's brother's wedding. It was a lovely, happy celebration.
  • It was also great to see all Rosie's family, including a brand new niece born to another brother while we were there! We also enjoyed worshipping with two of our link churches (- all that time allowed!)
  • We celebrated Abigail's fifth birthday here in our garden, with a big party and mermaid cake. Abigail and the 24 other children loved it... Mummy took several days to recover!
  • Teaching is going well. We are half way through term. (We have just found out that Dan's Philosophy of Religion students have nicknamed him "The Great Philosopher"...
  • We had an interesting weekend away in a town called Mityana - Dan was invited to preach in the Cathedral there. We all went and stayed with Bishop Dunstan and his wife Mama Phoebe, a very hospitable and warm couple. Dan preached to over 800 young people in the Youth Service! He also had to speak on the local radio station, with zero notice. Rosie managed to greet the congregations with extremely basic Luganda...!
  • Rosie's thyroid has been declared "normal" after being off medication for a month. This is a great relief as she has been on treatment for three years.
  • The children are very well and happy. They are very glad that term has ended (seems awfully early to us!) - and Rosie is glad that daily drives to Kampala are not necessary for a while. Our cat Hunca Munca had three kittens (on Dan's shorts!) which is a huge source of conversation and entertainment.

Prayer requests:

  • Rosie is leading the Staff Women's Fellowship on Weds 6th July, and also preaching in the University Chapel on Weds 13thJuly. Please pray for inspiration, and for God's working on both those occasions.
  • One of our key Theology lecturers, Joel Obetia, has recently been elected Bishop of Madi West Nile. He will be enthroned in November. Whilst we think he is a very good choice for bishop, we will miss him terribly, both as a friend and in the Department. Please pray for him and his wife Joy as they prepare for the move, and also for the appointment of a new Theology lecturer to replace him.
  • From 25th July to 12th August, a team is coming over from CMS Ireland. They will spend most of their visit on an outreach trip to the west of Uganda. For the last four days they will be with us at the University. Please pray for the planning of this trip and for their whole experience here. More details in the next bulletin!
  • Please continue to pray for safety on the roads, and for good health and protection for all of us.

Thank you as always for all your support, prayers, birthday cards and interest in God's work here in Uganda - we appreciate it all very much.

With our love and prayers,

Rosie Dan Abigail and Alex.
