Dear Everyone,
Greetings from humid, rainy Uganda. We thought that in this prayer letter we would give you a bit of a photo gallery of some of our colleagues and students, so that you may feel a bit closer to our life here. But first, a snapshot in words of a day in Uganda…
Dan was invited to preach in our student Martin Mukwaya’s church, in a village about two hours away. They set off at 6.30 in the morning, driving way off the tarmac road into the lush bush – eventually driving along no more than a track through the grass. The service began an hour and a half late, as there was heavy rain in the morning, so the church members were doing something in their gardens before coming to church. Dan was given tea and bread while they waited… When the service did begin, there was a new pastor being introduced, with special choir items, many speeches, the baptism of six babies and offerings collected for all six families… The service took six and a half hours!! Martin’s testimony is wonderful though. He was sent to the church in the face of divisions in the diocese and among denominations in the area. He has been working to bring people together, and now has people coming to church from all sides of the previous rifts. He even has several Muslims attending the services. It is so encouraging for us to see our students having ministries like this. Please keep helping us help them.

Alfred Olwa and his wife Susan. He is the Dean of the Theology Department Alfred and Susan come from Lango in northern Uganda, and have family in the camps for displaced persons there. He goes often to do ministry in the camps. |
Pamela, the secretary for the School of Divinity and Theology. She sits in a tiny office with Gertrude her assistant, and cheerfully (usually!) helps us with everything. |
Stephen Noll is the vice chancellor of the University, from Pittsburgh, USA. The now retired Archbishop Nkoyoyo felt led by God to invite him (and then persuade him!) to come to Uganda to lead the new university. He and his wife Peggy have been here five years. |
Frederick Baalwa is our University Chaplain. |
Rosie with our theology student Rebecca Aoja (a member of the Women in Ministry fellowship I hold on Thursdays). She is an ordinand from Soroti, north of Kampala. Unmarried, she cares for two orphaned nephews. She is involved with the Student Guild and has great leadership skills. |
Dan with our friend and student, Daniel Lemadada. Daniel is the Kenyan pastor Dan lived with for 18 months in the desert of northern Kenya, church planting, back in 1992-3. He has been our student here but will be finishing his studies in August. He has already been given his new church – we will miss him but we know he will do a fantastic job growing God’s church there. |
Dan with his discipleship group – the members are Theology students: we meet on Wednesdays to share ministry concerns/issues and pray for each other.

One of our students, John Bosco, from Soroti. We helped him with school fees for five orphans he is looking after, and he thanked us with this live chicken. It is now in our freezer! Many of our students are providing for children left by their late siblings. It is very difficult for them needless to say, as students and/or on a pastor’s stipend. |
Rosie teaching the OT Survey course. The picture obviously does not show the 300 or so students – quite a big class! |
A recent picture of Abby and Alex. They are very well, developing fast, and loving life in Uganda. When I asked them to draw the perfect house they would like to live in, Alex said, “I’d just draw this one.”
