Prayer Letter September 2004 (Acrobat pdf version - click here)

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints” (Eph 6:18)

Dear family,

Thank you so much for your prayers. We marvel at how the Lord has looked after us thus far! He supplies all our needs out of His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Ministry News in Streatham, London

The Asian Mela in London went well with many visiting the stall. Lots of tracts and gospels in most of the Asian languages were distributed. The team unity was at its highest. Afri still travels to London from Birmingham every fortnight. He is pastoring an Asian congregation on a part time basis. He has visited nearly all in the membership list and is now looking into starting Bible studies with new Christians and training others in evangelism.

Ministry in Birmingham

When Afri comes back to Birmingham, both Pam and he run a discipleship group with Asians from a Sikh background. We also try to visit Asians and encourage converts in their home. Afri and Pam also support a weekly local outreach to the Asians on Wednesdays.
This outreach in a Muslim area is something the whole family are involved in. It is so encouraging to see Christians of so many different nationalities involved. The conversations are interesting and most accept literature and some have come in for coffee. This is held outside a church hall where tracts are given and conversations are encouraged.

Both Pam and Afri are also involved in a new Bengali Fellowship Church plant working along with a Bengali Pastor. This fellowship has just started on a bi monthly basis. There are around 400,000 Bengalis who are unreached here in the U.K.

Pam’s Ministry

She is a homemaker and is also involved in the weekly Outreach locally in the Muslim area. The telephone is also proving to be a great medium for counselling and witnessing too. Some Asian women came to the home which is encouraging, after she visited them. One lady actually has a Christian sister! They gladly received a Gujerati bible and literature.

Children’s News

They had a good summer and enjoyed the break in Wales, though the weather offended one off them! They are all getting taller and we have to fight for the bathroom these days with a teenager in the home! They have started their schools happily. They came a few times to the weekly outreach and stamped tracts and played on the games tables. Simeon attends youth bible studies at church and enjoyed a Christian camp. Please pray they will be like Daniel in their schools and that they will grow in their musical skills. Judah plays the guitar but could do with some more training.

Praise

  • Afri’s encouraging ministry in London

  • Pam and boys coping well in Birmingham

  • New Bengali Fellowship started.

  • People responding to the gospel. A Malaysian man received a tract and started coming to church. Also, a Punjabi man got saved at the Bus Stop! He said that he had heard of Jesus in the Punjab and wanted His forgiveness.

Prayers

  • The Bengali fellowship will flourish and that God will bring in seekers.

  • God to water seeds of Gospel from Afri’s preaching.

  • The Asian converts in Birmingham to persevere in their faith as they are tested in difficulties at home. The men will grow in their faith and come to the Friday morning group

  • We still need God’s guidance for the future and a full time paid Christian ministry. This is an important prayer item, as we have to exercise our faith in waiting on the Lord.

  • The Streatham fellowship will be eager to use their spiritual gifts to serve the Lord and be united in working for the Lord.

God bless and thanks for walking alongside and being there for us.
