24th August 2007 Prayer Update
Dear Friends,
Climb Mount Kenya
Just 2 weeks today, and the party I am joining will be starting our
sponsored Climb of Mount Kenya. And first, please accept my sincere and
most grateful thanks to so many of you - nearly 80 so far - who have donated
so generously to my part in this venture. With 2 or 3 especially generous
gifts (in both Sterling and Euros) the figure is reaching close to £5,000.
Very special thanks also to all who have welcomed me and given hospitality
over these wet summer months; I'm only sorry I haven't met you all. Thank
you and God bless you.
Then two reminders. This climb is organised by Church Mission Society (CMS)
to raise funds to train leaders for African churches which are continuing to
grow at a phenomenal rate and are faced with enormous challenges - the
spread of HIV/AIDS, civil wars, poverty and corruption. The gospel calls
people to a lifestyle where AIDS will die out, where fighting and greed are
stopped. It also offers life and hope to those who are victims of these
evils, and even forgiveness to the perpetrators who repent. But where can
we find men and women equipped to proclaim and administer this Good News of
Jesus? It is the training of such people that CMS aims to facilitate.
The 2nd reminder: If you haven't already done so, it's not too late for you
to sponsor me - or to give a bit more?! Here is how - and please act soon.
Either
1. If you send a cheque to me (at the address above), make it payable to
"Church Mission Society" and post it to reach me before the end of August.
If you are a UK taxpayer and are willing for CMS to claim the 'Gift Aid' tax
rebate on your gift, please tell me, and give me your full postal address.
Or
2. Post your cheque direct to CMS at their NEW address, which is
P.O. Box 1799, Watlington Road, Cowley,
Oxford OX4 6BZ
Please be sure to inform CMS that your donation is for the "Sponsored Mt.
Kenya Challenge - David Green's sponsorship". If you are able and willing
to "Gift Aid" your donation, do so as in 1. above.
Or
3. You can give online through CMS's website: www.cms-uk.org , then go to
"Give" - "Give now", then use your credit/debit card; and where you are
asked to specify what your donation is for, write "Sponsored Mt. Kenya
Challenge - David Green's sponsorship".
Failing that, ring Sarah Thomas on 01865-787518, or email her
sarah.thomas@cms-uk.org
and she will advise you.
Lastly with reference to Mt. Kenya, please pray for us. There are 7 of us
taking part in this challenge for CMS, and some others for another
charitable project. There will also be the guides and porters. Please pray
these 4 "F's" for us all:
FITNESS and health for everyone,
FREEDOM from accident and injury,
FINE weather 7-13 Sept.,
good FELLOWSHIP among porters, guides and us climbers.
Back to Tabora
Four weeks today, more or less, I'll be back in Tabora - back in my other
home and back to work. I expect to start teaching a new English Course soon
after arrival. There will again be some preaching in the Swahili services,
and there may be the starting of a new English service. Then later this
year, in consultation with Bishop Sadock Makaya, we will be seeking to know
if God means me to leave Tanzania when my visa expires in March 2008, or to
apply for its renewal, initially for another 2 years. More news on that
question in my next letter, hopefully before Christmas.
With my greetings and prayers for you, and sincere thanks for your prayers
and support,
David Green
