Prayer Update February 2008   

Dear Friends,

Thank you for all your prayers for the work here. Main needs now are:

  • Our living positively group at the prison has grown to 18. Together we are studying the Lord's Prayer - slowly! Also, each week I teach something practical to the group about staying healthy. Please pray for this special group that they would come to trust God as their Abba - Father and live the short time remaining to them according to His will. 

  • We'll begin another round of Peer Education Training at the youth centre next month. Pray that we'll recruit young people who can encourage others to live safely in the context of HIV. 

  • Anne, a NEXT volunteer from London, has settled in well to the routine of HIV outreach with me in the mornings and English and Computer teaching at the youth centre in the afternoons. Do pray that she'll quickly form relationships with the young people and have opportunity to speak into their lives. 

  • Chris, another NEXT volunteer, is doing a great job on developing the youth centre facilities. He has screened all the windows against the destructive pigeon invasions we've been living with for 4 years. He will build an outside washing stand for the youth to use and then some tiered stadium style seating for the Basket Ball and Volley Ball courts. Please pray for safety as he works and that the materials he needs will be available. 

  • Jon still desires to establish a youth centre boys Bible study group. Do pray for him and Chris, and Joel another short termer, as they develop relationships and look for opportunities. 

  • The two youth centre girls' Bible study groups are encouraging and blessing me and Anne. Ask God to open the girls' minds to His Word and to reveal His truth to their hearts. 

  • The rural village school graduation at Romenat was brilliant. Please pray that our plans to begin teaching in Mymekden, a rural village north of Mekelle, will come together. 

  • Continued unrest in the north and east of the country is a concern - we don't need another war with Eritrea. Please continue to pray for peace.
