Strajnic, Christian and Lotta - Serbia

Prayer Letter January 2008.

Dear friends and mission partners,

We hope you have had lovely time during the Christmas season. We have been resting and visiting our family in Sweden for a week and it was wonderful. The start of the New Year in Serbia rather seems troublesome. Serbia is heading for new Presidential elections and there is so much at stake right now.

Serbia is facing maybe it's most difficult time, a cross road. It will chose it's future on the coming Presidential elections which will be held the 3rd of February (second round), this coming Sunday. It is not obvious at all who is going to win, both candidates have the chance to win. It is a difficult choice for the Serbian people. One choice is a pro western candidate the current president Boris Tadic with a desire to move Serbia quickly towards integration with EU. The other choice is Tomislav Nikolic which is representing the Radical Party, Tomislav wants a more eastern oriented Serbia.

Of course it is hard to predict the future and say this road is safer or more prosperous than the other and so the choice is difficult to make.

The Serbian people needs a lot of prayer support, they are living in very difficult circumstances, with high unemployment (30%), and a lot of poverty, the average salary is only 300 Euro, majority are working for 100 Euro/month and with prices even higher than in many EU countries.

Serbia is still housing 300.000 refugees from, Kosovo, Bosnia and Croatia, many of those are living in inhuman conditions. People are every day looking for food in the garbage containers, being clothed by humanitarian aid, and just surviving on daily basis.

Please join with us in our prayers for the Serbia's future and Serbian people.

  • Pray for Serbia, for stability, for the right solution concerning Kosovo...
  • Pray that the Serbian people will make the right choice concerning their future
  • Pray for reconciliation among the Balkan nations and people
  • Pray for us and Project Timothy, we have much to do this coming year...

Yours in Christ
