"Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you
whole." Acts 4 vs. 10 KJV
I read this verse this morning and it was a stark reminder to me that Jesus makes us WHOLE! How wonderful! When we allow Jesus to reign in our hearts we are made complete by Him. AND HIS NAME THROUGH FAITH IN HIS NAME HAS MADE THIS MAN STRONG (Acts 3 vs. 16 KJV). How much praise our Lord deserves for His amazing gift of salvation, which brings with it wholeness and strength!
Yet there are so many people who have not encountered Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the one whom we know! So many people who find themselves, weak, broken and without hope!
Well, lots has happened since my last letter to you. Now I’m not an I, but a We! That truly is an amazing blessing from our faithful God! Words cannot express how struck I am at His goodness. But I don’t want to talk about this, but about the ministry :o) .
Obviously Chris and I have needed some time to settle into married life, but it wasn’t long before the Lord started to give us both wonderful and exciting opportunities to share the Gospel. A devout Muslim Professor of Arabic came round our house and listened to the Gospel being explained by Chris for nearly 4 hours! He went away overjoyed and with a bible in his language in his hands. He has now gone back to his country and has been in touch with us a couple of times. We continue to pray for this distinguished and ‘devout’ Muslim. Perhaps a ‘Cornelius’?
Not long after that we had another visit from a Chinese girl who took steps towards faith by asking Jesus to show her who He is and to help her believe in Him, she had never prayed before. She also went away with a bible in her language and has now returned to China. We have arranged for Christians to contact her and are awaiting feedback.
A Japanese girl has attended church a couple of times and been quite moved. She is here until January. Let’s pray that she will return to Japan with Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour.
I had a short opportunity to share the Gospel with M, another Japanese person who has recently returned to Japan. Please pray for him. I think he is really searching.
H is from Korea and came to our wedding. She is Catholic and came round last week. She is leaving soon. Please pray that I will have the opportunity to share the Gospel with her.
Well, now down to the immigrants who live here in Hastings and St. Leonard’s. I’ve been visiting a Turkish lady who I have befriended over this past year. I believe the bridge is built now and she sees me as a friend. I have had opportunities to share the Gospel with her, but the language barrier makes it difficult for her to fully understand, but she has received a Bible in her language. Please pray that she will read it and that the Lord will meet with her as she reads.
I’ve started visiting a lady from Kosovo more regularly (now that I work fewer hours I can do this, it’s great!) she has lived here with her husband and their two adorable little girls for a good few years now and is trying to overcome the hurdles of becoming British citizens. They have currently moved into a very dark, dingy and damp basement flat, because it’s difficult for people like them to find anything else really, while they wait for the council to give them a more decent flat. Her husband lost all, but two members of his family during the Kosovan war. Chris and I are going there tomorrow to take them a mattress. I am sure that once he and Chris become friends, (they are muslim) he would be open to the Gospel once it is explained to him. She and her girls came round the other day. I am just starting to really build the friendship with her, she still sees me as her English teacher, but I want that to change. I have always felt that the Lord has His mighty hand upon this family.
I meet a Russian lady regularly and for the first time 2 weeks ago we spoke more directly about Christian things, she told me that she was baptised as a 6 year old in communist Russia. Her mother was a communist but her grandmother a Christian. The baptism didn’t really mean a lot to her, but now as an adult she sees the value in it. I believe that the Lord is beginning to open up opportunities here too!
Well, as mentioned briefly in the letter I have just started an English
Workshop. I wanted to start it with a mini social, but they don’t come to that :o( . Most of it is shyness I think and being used to having to keep yourself to yourself in this culture. A and I (A is a Christian from South America) are praying for ways of getting the group to get to know each other more. I don’t want them to see me as just their English teacher but as a friend too!
And on the English side of things, well, it’s more difficult with us English :o), but of course not impossible. Please continue praying for D – I continue to visit her, she continues in unbelief. Has been involved in Spiritism, needs a lot of prayer. S – continues in unbelief although I have had numerous debates with her. She came round the other day, and touched on the subject of Christianity without my prompting. Something is happening.
We continue to seek the Lord regarding Ministry for Chris. Please pray that the Lord will clear away all obstacles that are not of Him.
How wonderful it would be if all these people would turn to Jesus to receive His salvation and be made whole? We continue faithfully loving them and praying for them, just seeking to be vessels of the Holy Spirit.
May we take this opportunity of wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and may the peace of our Saviour reign well in your hearts during this time and throughout the coming year.
