August 2007 Prayer Update

older prayer news

David spent the last 23 years in pastoral ministry in Gloucester Diocese. Before that he served for 11 years in Mount Kenya and Nairobi Dioceses. He writes:

It was a prayer request in January '03 from the Church in Sudan - "An urgent need for mission partners with African experience" - that I responded to, because I was coming up to retirement but didn't feel I wanted to retire just yet. It did not work out for me to go to Sudan, but I had been given the prompt to pray on and push doors to see if the Lord might make some use of me elsewhere in Swahili-speaking Africa. So it is that I have arrived, 2 months ago, in Tabora Diocese, under Crosslinks' "NEXT" programme - teaching in the diocesan Bible School, preaching most Sundays, giving some secretarial help, and about to take on more TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) - for which, please pray!

I have received a warm and generous welcome from the Church here, and - as is so often the case - I find that I am the learner rather than the teacher, and am on the receiving end of God's blessings as much as giving. Having said that, I have 4 grandchildren back in England, so I feel somewhat torn where I want to be.
