It is a common situation throughout Southern Uganda that over half the population are still children. Many come from families mired by poverty, ravaged by HIV/AIDS and led astray by false teaching. One of the central needs in the churches is for quality, affordable Bible training so people are equipped to build the church and lead others to Christ.

Aiming to meet this need are indigenous organisations Advancing Ministries of the Gospel (AMG) and the Kampala Evangelical School of Theology (KEST).

AMG is a non-profit Christian organisation running church based Child Development Programmes across Uganda. Each programme provides 200-300 children with medical care, nutrition, life-skills, and the gospel.

KEST prepares and equips men and women with the knowledge and skills for effective biblical and holistic ministry in church and in society through formal and non-formal training programmes.

With AMG we will be involved in:

  • Training the staff and volunteers, as well as church leaders, to handle the bible faithfully and apply God’s truth well in the context they are in.
  • Developing courses and written resources for teaching the bible to adults and children.
  • Steve will train a Ugandan to take his place in the future
  • Gwyn’s primary school teaching skills and experience will be invaluable in helping children’s workers plan and execute their lessons.

At KEST Steve will:

  • Be teaching an introductory course in Christian Doctrine to church pastors and children’s / community workers.

Steve became a Christian in his teenage years and began to have growing convictions about serving Christ abroad after taking a pre-university year out in Kenya. He studied for a BA in Theology at Durham and spent 4-5 years involved in teaching and pastoral ministry in local churches before completing a MTh at Oak Hill Theological College.

Gwyn came from a Christian family and became a Christian as a young child. After visiting Swaziland at 15 she developed an interest in teaching in Africa. Since primary teaching in London she is now a full time mother to Joshua. Gwyn has also studied some courses at Oak Hill.
